STITCHTHREAD

Q. How did the band form?
- Stitchthread originally began back in 2002 as a 2-piece recording only project. We got a "full" line-up in 2004 and began gigging back then. Whilst only lead vocalist/guitarist Mark remains from that original line-up, guitarist Andy has been with the band since 2005, drummer Ian since 2007 and most recently bassist Jim since 2010. The current incarnation of Stitchthread has been together since then and I think that makes it the longest lasting line-up we've had!

Q. What are your influences?
- Whilst we began as a more goth-rock influenced outfit, these days we are more influenced by post-metal/doom bands such as Cult Of Luna, ISIS, The Ocean and Neurosis. There's also hunts of prog rock in there and some Cure-esque melancholy.

Q. What makes Stitchthread stand out from the rest?
- I think our sound is very unique in general, but particularly with regards to the Preston/North West music scene, there's just not many bands creating the kind of slow and heavy soundscapes that we do. People can always expect a unique aural experience from us!

Q. What do you make of the M2TM competition?
- Playing in M2TM was a lot of fun and was a chance to play with a more diverse range of bands and fans than we usually would. Whilst it's a shame that we didn't progress to the next round, every credit to the bands who got through as competition was tough and all the bands were excellent on the night.

Q. Have you ever been to Bloodstock before? If so, what was your highlight? If not, why?
- Whilst I don't think any of us have actually been to Bloodstock we were certainly all aware of it and the high calibre of metal bands that play every year - in fact the chance to have a slot there was a major influence upon our participation in M2TM.

Q. Do you have any music out there that people can check out?
- Yes! People can download and stream our very recent album SIGNAL HAS BEEN LOST from www.stitchthread.bandcamp.com. As well as that album, our previous EP " For the Calm and For the Storm" and various live recordings are all available.

Q. What’s next for the band?
- Although we only released "Signal Has Been Lost" in february of this year, we've already begun writing for our next release. We also aim to continue gigging regularly throughout the course of 2012 and will be gradually unveiling our next tracks as the year goes on.
