Angel Of Metal likes to keep an eye on what’s up and coming, so meet Florida death thrashers ARES….they are indeed, young, fast, aggressive and brutal!

Q
Please introduce each member of the band and what you do.
A

Glenn Moore- Guitar/Vocals
Justin Adams- Guitar
Brian Solka- Bass

Matt Solka- Drums

Q
How/when did Ares form?
A
Ares formed in 2005. We all met and started hanging out during our freshman year of high school. Matt and Brian were jamming with a few friends but never could establish anything serious. Justin had known of Matt and joined their group to create Plagued. Then I(Glenn) Joined in not too long after to form Ares and the rest is history...
Q
When did you get into Metal?
A
I think it’s safe to say we all started listening to the classics (Metallica, Pantera, Slayer) around 2003-2004 when we were about 14 years old or so.
Q
What bands do you listen to?
A
This is an interesting question. I know it sounds cliché but Ares listens to everything. We all love heavy bands like Morbid Angel, Death, Decapitated, Behemoth, Vader… But our musical horizons stretch so far beyond metal. Lately we’ve been listening to a lot of Savage Garden, Huey Lewis, and Dépêche Mode. Elton John and The Beatles always tend to be in our CD players as well.
Q
Have you faced any challenges, in terms of being taken seriously, when people realize you are still teenagers?
A
I think the only challenge we’ve faced is trying to get our friends in the venues. It’s hard to get our fans to come out when certain clubs stick to the 21 and up rule. Being young has actually become a blessing. We’ve defined our sound early and people seem to dig it. It actually blows people away that we’re able to play as tight as we do being as young as we are.
Q
How did you get involved with Dark Harvest Records?
A
Dark harvest was interested about 2 years ago before we finished our first record. We received a friend request from them through our MySpace page. Once Dawn of Destruction was complete we sent them a press package and they responded. They’ve been a mighty ally.
Q
Have you had much gigging experience?  I see you have a mini tour coming up in June.
A
For a young band I’d say we have a lot of experience. We played our first show together about 3 months after the band formed. We’ve never gone through a gig drought so… We’re talking 3 years worth of playing shows. But what we have planned for June will be our first actual “tour”.
Q
Choosing the name Ares, are you into Greek mythology?
A
We’ve all delved into mythology a little bit but we chose the name because we thought it was powerful. Playing the style of music we do, we needed a name that represents strength and immortality. We didn’t want anything cheesy or gory… We thought the God of Warfare would be sufficient.
Q
Who writes the music and lyrics?
A
I would say I write most of the lyrics and collectively we write the music. Usually what happens is Justin or I will come in with a handful of riffs and together we’ll mold them into songs.
Q
Lyrical content?
A
Some of the songs are about war, oppression, tyranny, etc. But most of the song titles and lyrics are very broad. It’s usually the last piece of the puzzle. All of the riffs are written long before titles are thrown around. We like for the fans to make up their own mind about lyrics and what they mean. Music is about exploration and interpretation.
Q
Tell me about your upcoming new album “Kill/Gore/Sledge”, due for release in June. Where did you record it, did you work with a producer or self-produce, how many tracks, artwork, is there a theme etc.?
A
Kill/Gore/Sledge IS Ares. On this record we’ve really come into our own. It was recorded at Mana Studios. Brian Elliot, who worked with us on Dawn of Destruction, produced, engineered, and mastered it. Working with him and in that studio has been amazing and we thank him for everything he’s done for us. There are 8 tracks on this one. We didn’t want to put a lot of pressure on ourselves and try to release a dozen new tunes. We really just wanted to buckle down and put everything we had into the 8 that ended up on the record. We love the artwork. We wanted something simple. We wanted something that would stand out in a record store. We didn’t want an elaborate canvass. We didn’t want anything that would take away from the music. We thought the green slime on a white background would be just fine. The only theme to this new record is balls to the wall!
Q
And lastly, for fun, favorite comedy?
A
Dick and Fart jokes…
