Unfortunately, I was unable to use the video interview I did with the lads of Cursed As Angels at Bloodstock Open Air 2008.  There was a technical fault with the audio.  Here is a text interview for the meantime and I hope I can catch up with them again at a later date.

Cursed As Angels are:
Owen – Vox
Paul – Guitar
Ian – Guitar
Paul – Bass
Dan - Drums

Q
How did you enjoy Bloodstock as a performer and punter?
A

It was awesome, from a punters side of things it topped last year along with every other festival I’ve been to, we all had a good drink and watched some great bands what more could you want?.

From a playing point of view it was fucking amazing, we had a great time on stage and we were really overwhelmed by the turn out, It was awesome to see so many people supporting our band
Q
How did Cursed As Angels get together?
A
In 2004 Owen asked me for Ians number, because he wanted to get a new band going, and that they did along with Paul (Bass) and two other guys. I was living away at uni at the time, but was coming home each week to see my girlfriend.. Paul (bass) then left the band and they were looking for a bassist in which I tried out for, on my first practice with them they kicked the other guitarist out so I dropped the bass and went on guitar. The three of us and a drum machine started writing songs for a few months we went through a few bassists until Paul came back and then had another drummer before we got Dan in.
Q
Where are your from?
A
We are from Gravesend in Kent
Q
How did you decide on your band name?
A

After all the bollocks we were going through with line up changes and shit, it did start to seem that this band wasn’t going to work and that we were in fact cursed. While coming up with a name we decided that cursed should defiantly be in the name.

The thing is none of us could agree on anything to go with it.

Then Owen watched the film Dogma and come up with cursed as angels for the reason being that the two angels in the film are cursed to live on earth forever without the ability to imbibe alcohol and they are also completely and literally dickless. Hense Cursed as angels, I can assure you though the band aren’t dickless well at least one of them isn’t anyway.
Q
You competed in BOTB for Bloodstock, tell me about that.
A
It was mad, we knew straight away before we had played a note that Denounce would win, they were the most popular and most deserving band on the bill and were safe bets for it. With that in mind we didn’t really feel under pressure and just had the attitude of lets go up there and enjoy it. And not to blow our own trumpets but we went up there and played a blinder. We later found out that there were in fact two slots for bloodstock available. There were other bands that we could see beating us to that easily but it was a glimmer of hope. When the result was announced was fucking crazy, we knew denounce would win the whole thing they were easily the best band on the day and like I said they deserved to be there, but when our name got called out for second place we couldn’t fucking believe it. Apparently me and Owen were standing there motionless for about a minute before we even reacted to what had just happened.
Q
Winners of Unsigned Bands at Total Rock
A
Yeah that was last year, we entered an online competition on where it was based on votes and won the award for best metal category which was lovely
Q
Tell me about your latest album “The Hanging Tree”, how many tracks, who produced it, writing process etc.
A

It has 11 tracks, we’ve had a nightmare getting out though, we recorded it in February and have been trying to get the art work sorted for ages but hopefully it will get out soon and it wont end up like a less anticipated version of Chinese democracy.

The album its self is a much bigger sound then our EP

We played around with different things on the album like getting my girlfriend in to do some backing vocals on one song called the puzzle box.

In terms of themes it has songs about zombies, Clive barkers  Hell raiser, and kicking the fuck out of someone who’s in your face so all though its not overly profound it’s a very easy album to get your head around
Q
What’s coming up next for the band?
A
At the moment we have to get this album out asap because it should of come out in June, other then that we are doing a few local shows to tie us up for the rest of the year, we have started writing album number 2 and I hopefully going to do a tour next summer.
