RECKLESS LOVE

Q

For those new to the band, can you tell us what Reckless Love is all about and how did you form?

A

Reckless Love is about good ol’ fashioned rock n roll! One might even call it Merry Metal. Skip the 90’s haha! We have our roots in entertainment, but good songs come first!!

We formed originally in 2001 initially as a Gn’R covers band. In the middle of the naughties we started writing our own material and building up the ambition to make it big! In 2009 the current line-up was locked and pretty soon after that we got signed to Universal.

Q

You’ve recently toured the UK. What were your expectations pre tour and thoughts post tour?

A

We had some expectations for it to go down pretty well, as we had played two shows in the UK prior to the tour (Camden Barfly in May, and Download in June) with really amazing response.

But we didn’t even dream of the way how the UK welcomed us. Everywhere we went the show’s were packed and the fans  greeted us with love and enthusiasm. There is a really strong scene going down for our style of music over there.

Q

Majority of the places you’re performing at are clubs, but you’ve made your festival appearance in the UK at Download this year. Which do you prefer?

A

There are pros and cons to both. I love to hear the crowd roar and the huge sound that we make on a big stage. However the sweaty close contact that you get with the people on the smaller stages is always a rush! I don’t think we would ever quit playing clubs even if we made it stadium size as a band.

Q

You’ve played in some pretty cool countries. Which has been the best to date? And is there anywhere that you haven’t toured yet which you would like to?

A

Every country we’ve played in has had a totally different vibe. The cultural differences are there for all to see n feel. I can’t say which one is the best or worst cause they’ve all been so good to us!

Well there is the whole world for us to tour – we’ve got a long journey to go and millions of wonderful new places to see. It’s all just beginning for us. And I love that!

Q

You’re latest album which is self titled “Reckless Love” is now out via Spinefarm Records in the UK. After listening to the album its just 1 anthem after another! Is that something that is consistent during writing for you? Or did you demo 20-30 songs and chose the catchy ones?

A

Thank you! There were some leftover songs from the album, but not that many. Just a few. I think they were as good, but just didn’t fit the flow or vibe of the album. There might be a resurrection of one or two of those songs on the second album though. But yeah, the basic idea with us is always to write songs so catchy that upon first listening by the second chorus   people are already singing along. But you need  to maintain longevity too. And that’s the hardest thing to achieve methinks!!

Q

Who is the main lyricist in the band? Who is the musical genius?

A

Olli wrote all of the first album’s lyrics with little assistance here and there, and I wrote most of the music with some help from Jalle and our producer Ilkka Wirtanen. I think the genius in making music is in finding the simplest form of expression. That’s when more people will relate.

Q

Is it Reckless Love mission to bring back good fun rock music?

A

Well, it was never a plan on a piece of paper or anything haha. I think it has more to do with the fact that there just isn’t any around these days. I mean we’d be doing it this way anyway. I laugh at people who say rock n roll can only be dark, moody and angry. I mean why the fuck? There is no rule book to rock n roll! I think the only way to do it is what comes natural to you. I’m all for diversity and appreciate every form of musical expression.

Q

What’s the most rock n roll thing you’ve done?

A

Well .. the one’s that spring to mind are so outrageous I won’t even shed a glimpse of light on them ... not that I’m ashamed, but I don’t wanna get caught hehe!

ummmmm start a band?  hahaha!! J

Q

A lot of the bands you’re into, or see as idols, are now today’s legends. Do you think in 20years time you would be up there as a “rock legend”?

A

Only time will tell. But we’re totally not in this for the short run. This shit is in my blood and nothing short of death will keep me from making music and presenting it to the people.

Q

What’s next for Reckless Love?

A

We’re still touring the first album, while writing the second. Next up is Firefest Friday in Nottingham rock city. Looking forward to that one. We’ve also got some major TV time lining up in Finland to boost the public’s awareness of us. The record company is releasing a special edition of the debut album with added bonus tracks.

2011 will see us release the follow up album (fall release with a spring first single), and tour like mad throughout the year!!  It’s gonna be one helluva ride!!!!
