Vitaly combines the roots of rock with a modern European gothic feel. Vitaly crosses the genres, from emotional romantic ballads to a dark gothic rock industrial sound and is also self produced by Tommy Vitaly. Being interested in all genres of rock/metal, it was about time I found out more on this Italian band. |

| Q | Tommy, when did you start playing the guitar and who were your main influences at that time? |
| A |
I started playing the guitar when I was 16. At that time my main influences came all from 80's Heavy Metal and Hard Rock's greatest bands, such as Iron Maiden (I was a crazy fan for many years), Metallica, Manowar, Yngwie Malmsteen, Motley Crue, Skid Row, Testament and many more... |
| Q | Can you discuss the classical aspects to your music? |
| A | Besides rock/metal music i grew up with classical music and studies. I think Vitaly's music reflect some of the romantic music I use to listen to, especially in some orchestral and piano sections. I think classical music is the queen of music. |
| Q | Do you play any other instruments? |
| A | Oh yes. I play piano and clarinet. I studied them for many years. I am no more able as I was some time ago, but i can still play some pieces on those instruments. |
| Q | Have you played in any other bands? |
| A | Sure. I played in several bands and cover bands. I had a Motley Crue cover band and Manowar cover band. Now my main band is Vitaly, but I also play in a power metal band called SevenGates (one cd was out in 2002 for a brazilian label) and a Helloween cover band. |
| Q | You released your new CD “Diva” in May 2007 on DA Records. How has the CD been received so far? |
| A | Well, the cd was a great surprise. People really enjoy our music, especially in the USA and Canada, and we had a lot of audiences there, after the cd was out. We were on many radio shows, thanks to DA Records' great work, and that was very helpful for our music. Our cd is now avaiable on the main download sites, as Itunes site. DA Records is working hard for releasing a press of the cd too,and many good things are to come in the near future!!! |
| Q | Which is your favourite track on “Diva”? |
| A | Hard question!! LOL! I love the Diva song, it's very "Tommish" style! haha! Actually I think my favourite ones are Kissing the Rose, Cold Embrace and The Darkest Love. |
| Q | Your music and lyrics are very deep, dark, spiritual and soulful; is that a reflection of your own personality? |
| A | Yes. Absolutely. What we write is the reflection of our personality and our way to live our lives. It's not negative attitude, but only romantic and dark. If you knew us, you 'd see we are two happy and crazy guys....but you know, when we hide from people for writing our music, something changes..... |
| Q | Which piece of music that you have written, is the most challenging to play? |
| A | Nice question!...mmm.....I think the "In Blood We Trust" guitar solo and the "Diva" solo. |
| Q | You have also been involved with power metal band, Sevengates. Is that project on hold at the moment? |
| A | Yes. We published a cd called "Unreality" in 2002 for a brazilian label. We recorded a 2nd cd in 2005, but it never came to light, due to problems with labels we dealt with. I am really sorry about that because that 2nd cd is a very beautiful power metal cd, believe me. Now we are working on a self produced 3rd cd. I think it will be ready for this autumn. |
| Q | Which artists do you listen to? |
| A | The more I get older, the more I listen to few ones! lol! I listen to Yngwie Malmsteen, Manowar, Savatage, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, movie soundtracks, some from goth rock music as The 69 Eyes and H.I.M., and many random hard rock music from the past. I love the 70's and 80's. |
| Q | What is next for Vitaly? |
| A |
We are recording right now a new 2nd album. YEAH! We are very happy about the new tracks. They are more spiritual, deep and dark than the Diva ones. And with several arrangements. We will use a mandolin, some orchestra arrangements and some percussion too! they will be about 10 tracks,and it should be out for the end of the year. Maybe we will have a very special guest on one track as singer,but for now it's top secret! |
| Q | For fun, what is your favourite film, and is there a character that you identify with? |
| A |
There are many favourite films.....Conan the Barbarian, The Crow, Picnic
at Hanging Rock, Natural Born Killers, Amadeus, Eyes Wide Shut....A
character?? mmm....MOZART??? LOL!

| Q | Tommy, quando hai iniziato a suonare la chitarra e quali erano le tue influenze principali in quel periodo? |
| A | Ho iniziato a suonare la chitarra elettrica a 16 anni.In quel periodo le mie influenze venivano dalle piu’ famose band di heavy metal e hard rock anni 80,come gli Iron Maiden (sono stato un loro accanito fan per molti anni),Metallica,Manowar,Yngwie Malmsteen,Motley Crue,Skid Row,Testament e tanti altri…… |
| Q | Puoi parlarci delle tue influenze classiche nella vostra musica? |
| A | Sono cresciuto anche con la musica classica.Penso che la musica dei Vitaly rifletta un po’ della musica romantica che di solito ascolto,specialmente in alcune orchestrazioni e parti di piano.Penso che la musica classica sia la regina della musica. |
| Q | Suoni altri strumenti? |
| A | Si.Suono anche piano e clarinetto.Li ho studiati per molti anni.Non sono piu’ bravo come lo ero un tempo,ma ci so ancora mettere le mani sopra! |
| Q | Hai suonato in altre bands? |
| A | Certo…ho suonato in diverse bands e cover bands.Avevo una Manowar e una Motley Crue cover band.Adesso il mio impegno principale sono i Vitaly,ma suono anche in una power metal band chiamata SevenGates (un disco usci’ nel 2002 per un’etichetta brasiliana) e in una cover band degli Helloween. |
| Q | Il vostro nuovo CD “Diva” è stato pubblicato nel mese di Maggio 2007 per la DA RECORDS. Come è stato accolto il cd finora? |
| A | Il cd è stata una grossa sorpresa!La gente ha davvero apprezzato la nostra musica,specialmente negli Usa e in Canada,abbiamo avuto un sacco di odiens là,dopo l’uscita di DIVA.Siamo stati su molti radio shows,grazie al supporto e al lavoro della DA RECORDS,e questo ci ha aiutato molto.Il nostro CD adesso è disponibile sui principali siti di download a pagamento,tipo ITUNES.DA RECORDS sta lavorando sodo per fare una stampa del cd,e tante belle cose devono ancora arrivare per noi! |
| Q | Quale è la tua canzone preferita di “Diva”? |
| A | Domanda difficile….:) Amo la canzone “Diva”,è molto nel mio stile..!AHAH! In realtà quelle che preferisco sono Kissing the Rose,Cold Embrace e The Darkest Love. |
| Q | La vostra musica e le vostre lyrics sono molto profonde, scure, spirituali e “soulful”; forse questo riflette la vostra propria personalità? |
| A | Si.Assolutamente.Quello che scriviamo è il riflesso della nostra personalità e del nostro modo di vivere.Non è un comportamento negativo,ma solo scuro e romantico.Se tu ci conoscessi ti renderesti conto che siamo due tipi allegri e pazzi,ma quando ci ritiriamo in solitudine per scrivere la nostra musica,qualcosa cambia….. |
| Q | Quale pensi siano le parti piu’ difficili da suonare di DIVA? |
| A | Domanda simpatica….mmmm…direi il solo di “In blood we trust” e il solo di “DIVA”. |
| Q | Sei coinvolto anche in un’altra power metal band chiamata Sevengates. Questo progetto è fermo per ora? |
| A | Si.Abbiamo pubblicato un cd nel 2002 chiamato “Unreality” per un’etichetta brasiliana.Ne registrammo un secondo nel 2005,ma non vide mai la luce,dati i diversi problemi con un paio di etichette discografiche per cui sarebbe dovuto uscire.Mi dispiace davvero ,perché penso che quel disco sia un bellissimo disco di power metal,credimi.Adesso stiamo lavorando su un terzo cd tutto autoprodotto.Dovrebbe essere pronto per questo autunno. |
| Q | Quali artisti ascolti? |
| A | Piu’ invecchio e piu’ ne ascolto pochi!!:-)Ascolto Yngwie Malmsteen,Manowar,Savatage,Beethoven,Mozart,Chopin,colonne sonore,un po di goth rock tipo The 69 eyes e H.I.M.,e tanta musica “a caso” hard rock del passato.Amo gli anni 70 e 80. |
| Q | Cosa ci dobbiamo aspettare dai Vitaly? |
| A |
Stiamo registrando proprio in questo periodo il secondo nuovo album!!Siamo molto contenti delle nuove canzoni.Sono ancora piu’ profonde,spirituali e dark di quelle di DIVA!E con molti arrangiamenti…abbiamo usato pure un mandolino,alcune percussioni e un po di orchestra!Saranno circa 10 tracce e dovrebbe essere pronto per la fine dell’anno! Forse ci sarà anche un ospite speciale come cantante..ma per ora è top secret! |
| Q | Per divertimento, quale è il tuo film preferito e c’è un personaggio in cui ti identifichi? |

Ho molti film preferiti…Conan il barbaro,Il Corvo,Picnic a Hanging
Rock,Assassini nati,Amadeus,Eyes wide shut…..Un
personaggio??mmm…..MOZART??:-))ahah!
