Q

Please introduce your band, the current line-up and what each of you do.

A

We are Apollyon a 3 piece blend of thrash and death metal straight from Ellesmere Port.
Glen Brazier on Guitars
James Roberts on Drums
Gareth Owen playing Bass also barking the vocals spraying his shallow views on the universe to all...

Q

How would you describe the band’s sound?

A

Heavier than a ten ton period!

Q

How do you approach your song writing and what is your lyrical theme/content?

A

The guitar riffs are usually formed in Gareth's Bedroom, Gareth likes to watch Glen Brazier play whilst he basically just eats naughty snacks and drinks beer in defiance of his recent diabetic downfall.
The riffs are then taken to the practice where James adds some slick beats with his twitching moustache tuning in to all around him. Gareth then supplies the vocals, this is Gareth's chance to rant about his job, lack of sex, stubby tin of spam like penis and his anger towards his diabetes.

Q

Who gets involved with writing of lyrics and melody? Is it down to specific individuals or a collaborative process?

A

Just Gareth, one day James suggested maybe he could do some back-up vocals, Gareth was furious! He told James his moustache would just get in the way and muffle the whole band's sound. That was the end of that...

Q

How often do you practice and have you any shows lined up?

A

We practice as much as we can, if we don’t practice then Gareth gets a sulk on... We have been busy gigging most weekends now for the past 2 months which has been great. We have kept tight as a band and will be looking forward to writing new material soon.

Q

What has been your best gig so far, and why is it so memorable?

A

Maybe one at the Hotel California, or the Krazy House in Liverpool! Seeing Gareth get his tits/tats out is always memorable for the band, this excites the crowd giving Gareth control, he likes control and especially appealing to the young kiddies. For the record though, Gareth Owen is not a paedophile...

Q

What was the last song you listened to, either on the radio, your mp3 player, at a gig...?

A

The last song we listened to was when the band was at our local barber shop watching James get his moustache pruned, James likes us all to come and watch this happen as he says it’s good for the band! Anyway the song was Spaceman by Babylon Zoo. We all love this song... James was right, this day did bring us closer together.

Q

Is there anything about the metal scene today that you would like to change?

A

Yes I think there should be more Diabetic front men like Gareth Owen! He is a credit to the metal scene, he gives his heart and soul into every performance, cutting down on all sugary snacks before every gig. More moustaches, more beef and less people with no moustaches, but with silly hair!

Q

What do you think of the Preston/North West  metal scene right now?

A

Don’t know an awful lot about it to be honest, we have been down twice to Preston and have been treated kindly. Seems to be a good buzz about the place though.

Q

What do you consider are the benefits of initiatives like Rock On Preston and Get In The Ring?

A

I think it’s a great idea for bands to get in the ring and kick shit out of each other! It builds networks and gets bands out there.

Q

What’s next for the band?

A

Finish gigging, get writing, more reviews! The band's featuring in Metal Hammer's cover mount free CD in March with a mini review which we are all looking forward to!! The album will be put into distribution and promoted further! Things are looking good!!
