The
final countdown came this Saturday as the last battle of the bands took place at
everyone’s favourite orange pub.
Kicking things off were The Dragstrip Junkies. The band came on
and gave it their all with 20 minutes of glam punk madness. A roaring response
was a clear sign The Dragstrips were performing well with frantic jumps and
crazed screams being an ideal way to start the night. A slightly off sound mix
didn’t dampen the bands spirits who were serious contenders for band of the
night.
Local emo icons Population Four came on to a packed, hungry
crowd. Melody and aggression were balanced well by the band that looked
determined to claim the prize. The band aimed to claim that prize with simple
yet effective beats which was an instant hit with the audience.
The winners of the night, By Any Means, followed and proved why
they carry the crown. Authoritative vocals lead the rest of the band through 20
minutes of genius headbanging grooves. Although influences on the band were
clear the band seems to have found their own niche which they used to eliminate
the very foundations of the building.
Giving some undeniable passion were runners up Sa Da Ko. The band
got the only pit of the night which says something about the strength of their
set as they towered above the stage. A collection of breakdowns meant the band
had an almost permanent excuse to get the crowd going and got themselves 100
percent immersed in the chaos. A great way to end the battle of the bands.
Although after much alcohol consumption memories were hazy, this
was the ultimate battle of the bands and a fantastic end to the mammoth event.
