Get In The
Ring, Round 3 - Reviewer: Alex Varley.
Sex,
drugs and rock n roll came face to face with shred,
solo and breakdown at the third edition of The Ship
Inn’s battle of the bands.
First
up were local sleaze governors DRAGSTRIP JUNKIES.
The Junkies gave perhaps the most energetic show I
have ever witnessed in Preston with a great display
of alcohol soaked glam punk. Every song performed
showed off the to- the- point and compelling nature
of the band’s music which had the floor packed with
a frenzied audience. Perhaps Preston’s own Backyard
Babies.
Next
up were ENDLESS THREAT who gave the polar opposite
to Dragstrip junkies’ glam punk with some no
nonsense hardcore. Breakdowns were the main agenda
for this band with every song giving another reason
to be caught in a mosh. The band had a clear set of
influences which, with time, should give them a
large following with the very popular modern
hardcore scene.
Following these was the mellowest act of tonight in
the shape of REASON UNKNOWN. The band gave the
audience an enthusiastic set with singer/ guitarist
Ben on a constant mission to win over anyone
watching. Their rendition of pop-punk brought to
mind bands such as Billy Talent and gave something
different to the bands that have competed in other
rounds.
It was
back to the glam for closers BAD BEHAVIOUR. Classic
rock ran through each of the band’s tunes which were
incredibly infectious and played by three determined
guitarists. The band had some horror punk inspired
onstage theatrics which went down well with a blood
hungry crowd.
The
band that have arguably put in the most visual
effort so far.
Debauchery reigned the third round with Bad
Behaviour and Dragstrip Junkies off to the
semi-finals.
